PRECISION ENGINEERING
Kowalski torches and video lights are not just run off a huge production line using mass produced components and assembled by faceless people who do not have to face the eventual users.

Erich Kowalski, who started to make diving lamps for himself and his friends in the early 1970s, is a precision engineer whose components have been used in some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering products in the world.
Erich is a passionate diver himself and he began to develop the torches that we know today in 1973: firstly for diving friends and then for the wider diving market. From these modest beginnings he has constantly upgraded and improved the torches, always making use of the most up to date technology, whilst still adopting the exacting manufacturing techniques of a precision engineer.
Erich's one constant belief has been that underwater torches should be and can be: "compact in size, robust, easy to operate and to include simple recharging without having to open the casing". A lamp that is rarely opened is less likely to leak.

Each component, apart from the bulb and O rings, is made by the Kowalski factory in Berlin, or manufactured to Erich Kowalski's designs. The torches are then assembled by hand and individually tested to exacting standards.
The reliability of Kowalski torches is world renowned, which is why Kowalski are able to offer a three year guarantee, with confidence, against faulty materials or workmanship. Sanyo also give a one year guarantee for the Nickel Cadmium batteries that are supplied with the lamps.
It is no wonder that many of the original lamps, manufactured in 1973, are still working today!
QUALITY IN EVERY DETAIL
Glass as hard as rock
The front lenses are made of toughened mineral glass, making the lamp resistant to severe temperature and pressure changes.
Deep discharge protection
Rechargeable batteries suffer damage from being totally discharged. The deep discharge protector maintains the life of the batteries, switching the lamp off in good time before the battery is entirely discharged. The indicator light on the base of the torch switches from green to red to give a warning about 8 minutes before the lamp is automatically turned off.

Safety without risk
Kowalski lamps are charged externally without opening. This avoids damage to the seals and internal connections.
The torch and battery charger are co-ordinated. Only by using a Kowalski charger for the lamp can damage, due to evaporating gases, be avoided. There is a special inbuilt charging process to ensure that gas emission is restricted.
The polarity of the charging connectors is unimportant. This means that you don't have to worry which connector you place in which charging point.

Perfectly safe during transport
 |
Every Kowalski lamp can be safely transported in your luggage or dive bag, due to the red safety switch that prevents unwanted operation. This patented safety device was specially designed so that the lamp can easily be stored base-down.
