Guarantee & Servicing

Kowalski Guarantee

Kowalski Guarantee their Lamps for 3 Years from the Date of the Original Purchase. This guarantee covers the lamp itself against faulty workmanship and materials. Sanyo also provide a guarantee of 1 year in respect of the rechargeable batteries. Unfortunately there is no guarantee in respect of the bulbs. This guarantee does not cover faults resulting from misuse of the lamp.

If you have a problem with your lamp, within the period of the Guarantee, don't try to fix it yourself without talking to us first. Any attempt to make a repair may invalidate the Guarantee.

We at Lighthouse Diving provide full support for this guarantee for all lamps purchased from us. Any faults developing within the terms of the guarantee will be remedied, either by repair or replacement of the item as soon as possible. There will be no cost for any Guarantee replacements or repairs. Return carriage costs within mainland UK will also be free.

Servicing

If you look after your Kowalski Torch or Video Lamp, there is very little servicing that will be needed.

There are a number of tips in the section Care and Maintenance to help you keep your Kowalski in perfect working order, but there are a few times that you may have to send your lamp back to us for attention.

Battery Replacement

We expect the batteries in your Kowalski to last you several years and give you a few hundred charges and discharges. This obviously depends on usage, but we are finding that the norm is about 500 charges or 5/6 years, whichever comes first. If your batteries do need changing, you will have to send the lamp back to us.

The costs of battery replacement are as follows:
All 620 Torches£80
Mini Xenon£80
All 1250 Torches£125
21W and 24W Xenon£125
12100-5 Torches£165
12100-7 Torches£215
Umbilical Battery PacksP.O.A.

Whilst changing the batteries in your lamp, we also do a clean and service, replacing O rings and re-greasing.

The cost includes return postage to you within mainland UK, but you will be responsible for getting it to us.

The Conversion of Kowalski Torches from Nickel Cadmium to Lithium Ion Batteries

From 26th September 2008 the sale of new Torches fitted with Nickel Cadmium batteries has been prohibited under the terms of an EU Directive click for more information. This directive will also includes the fitting of new replacement batteries in our torches, but for the moment it is still permissible.

For those who are perfectly content to continue using Nickel Cadmium batteries, we can replace the Ni-Cd batteries for now and it is perfectly OK to continue to use them for the next 5 or 6 years until they eventually expire. At this time all torches will have to be upgraded to the new Lithium Ion cells.

Alternatively, those whose batteries need replacement have the option to upgrade now if desired. There are considerable benefits in going for the upgrade which include longer burn times, lighter weight, dimmable switches and a more easily managed storage regime.

The upgrade does involve rather more than the simple replacement of the batteries. Because of the slightly increased voltage and the different charging characteristics there are a number of changes to be made to the internal printed circuit boards, switches and wiring, in addition to the extra sensors needed to cope with the Lithium in the cells. If you do wish to upgrade you will effectively be getting a new torch with your existing casing and handle.

In certain cases a replacement charger will also be required. The charger that has been supplied with all of the later Speed charging Kowalskis will be perfectly fine to use with the Lithium Ion cells and no change will be needed. The chargers originally supplied with the 620-S, 1250-S and 1250-D torches will however need replacing: those with the newer versions of the 620 and 1250 Classic are unknown at the moment, but we do not expect these to be coming up for upgrade until 2 or 3 years down the line: the prices below include any costs involved in the upgrade process.

Upgrade Prices (including VAT and delivery in mainland UK) :

From 21W Xenon to Li-Ion Maxum. (The exising charger works with the upgraded version)£510.00

Unfortunately, due to the overall costs involved it will not be possible to upgrade either the 12100-5 or the 12100-7 torches to the new Lithium Ion batteries.
If you are uncertain exactly which Kowalski model you have, please contact us.

Other Servicing or Repairs

Certain other servicing or repairs can be performed by us and, if you send the lamp to us, we can give you an estimate of repair costs, before we carry out the work. Our charges are £20 per hour (or 0.33p per minute) plus parts and delivery cost.

If your lamp has a problem that we at Lighthouse Diving cannot resolve, we will return it to the Kowalski factory in Germany for their specialised attention. Again we can obtain an estimate of cost before the work is carried out. All such repairs are charged to you at cost.

If you have a problem with your Kowalski Lamp or if you do not feel that it is performing to specification, don't wait - contact us. In most cases it is better to solve the problem early rather than putting it away on a shelf and cursing.

We want you to be pleased with your Kowalski Torch and we are willing and available to help you, by e-mail or by phone.
